When is the best time to visit the Louvre?

The best time to visit the Louvre is :

  • Best week Days to visit the Louvre  : Every Thursday or Friday
  • Best Months of the Year to visit the Louvre : January or February
  • Take a private Evening Tour of the Louvre on Friday is also an option, but it is not a guarantee either, as this option became famous already thanks to NYT

How to avoid the crowd at the Louvre ?

If you want to avoid the crowds, you need to go to the Louvre on Thursday or Friday.

The best season to visit the Louvre is on January or February, that's there are less crowds in the Louvre.

As Versailles Palace is closed on Mondays, visitors tend to go to the Louvre on Monday

so, I would avoid Mondays at the Louvre.

Wednesday is the day when french people go to the Louvre with the kids on a school educational trip. Also, because on Tuesday, the Louvre was closed, some visitors plan their Louvre journey on Wednesday.

The best months to see Paris are :

April : it is warmer, the trees of Paris are beautiful during first weeks of the Spring.

July, August : In summer the city is lively and we have open terraces.  Cafés, bars, restaurants are allowed to dress tables in the streets of the city.

November (thanksgiving) and December (Christmas) are also great times to see Paris in winter Christmassy decorations.

A lot of people travel to see the Louvre, they are about 11 Million visitors each year !

How to avoid the line in the Louvre ?

You need to book a ticket in advance.

in 2024 hiring a an official tour guide can not grant a skip the line entrance anymore.

How to get inside the Louvre ?

Regular tickets give your access to the Pyramid entrance

First, check if you have tickets available : The official Louvre Billetterie

If you are having trouble buying your tickets, you can ask me to help !

Special needs ?

Wheelchairs, strollers, push chairs, closets ...

The Louvre is very  accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.

You can borrow one for free in exchange for your ID or PASSPORT

After the Pyramid entrance :

3 gates to explore the Louvre !

  1. Gate Denon : Mona Lisa, Renaissance, Italian Paintings, French Paintings
  2. Gate Sully : Egypt, Venus de Milo, Sleeping Hermaphrodite ...
  3. Gate Richelieu : Mesopotamia, Law code of Hammurabi , the Four Captives ...

What are the best visitors trails of the louvre ?

The best way to see the highlights is to begin by Sully :

Go straight to see the Louvre fortress and get the history of the building itself.

Then go see the Egyptian wing.

Then you can head to the Venus of Milo and then the Winged Victory upstairs.

Go to the appolo gallery, then Salon Carré, then Grande Gallery.

On the Grande Gallery, turn to see the Mona Lisa in the historic room of Salle des États.

Find in the same room the biggest painting Feast at Cana.

Go straight to the Red Rooms where you can find Liberty guiding the People and the Coronation of Napoleon.
