From the Old Testament we see the creation of the world with Eve and Adam, the Patriarchs and Matriachs, like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca and Rachel, as well as the founder of the Jewish capital Jerusalem, King David.
And let’s not forget the stories of the Prophets like Elijah and Elisha.
And when it comes to the New Testament, you will learn all about the life of Jesus, from his birth to his ascension to heaven, about his mother Mary, a central figure and famous saints, like John the Baptist, and of course the deeper message of Christianity.
The Louvre’s archaeologists of the 19th century were part of an era of grand discoveries, where science, adventure, and even a touch of mystery intertwined. Back then, European explorers, driven by a mix of curiosity, scholarly ambition, and sometimes religious interest, sought to uncover traces of ancient civilizations—many of which were referenced in the Bible. Some of these archeologists were priests or at the least, Bible experts.
Their ultimate goal? To proove that the Bible is real.
Also, the Louvre is where la creme de la creme of the painter imagined many scenes of the New testament.
So, where is the best place to do a Bible tour in Paris?
Our artwork selection will illustrate the most known events of the Bible and its amazing stories. And the archeological artifacts will even connect the Bible with History.
Don't hesitate to ask questions during this private tour. The guide is also here to have a meaningful conversation with you.
We begin our journey with the Code of Hammurabi, a powerful king’s decree etched in basalt nearly 4,000 years ago in Mesopotamia. As we explore its structure and evolution, we’ll uncover striking parallels with the laws later received by Moses in the Old Testament, revealing a deep continuity in the foundations of justice and morality across civilizations.
Next, we step into the grand halls of an ancient royal palace from Susa—known as Shushan in the Bible and modern-day Mosul in Iraq.
Built 2,500 years ago for the Persian King Darius, its magnificent walls, remarkably preserved, were transported to France in the 19th century.
The Old Testament tells us how King Darius played a pivotal role in history, allowing the Jews to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. It also introduces us to his legendary son, who married a courageous Jewish woman—Esther.
Her story, filled with intrigue and bravery, unfolds in the Book of Esther, a tale of destiny, resilience, and royal power that continues to captivate readers to this day.
There is a lot more, but we will make sure you will not miss the Mesha Stele that dates back to 2800 years ago.
When this basalt rock was found it was actually used a dinner table by local Bedouins in Jordan. It turned out that the engraved text in the stone mentioned King David, King Omri and King Ahab, the famous kings of Judea and Israel. The fact that the names of these kings are mentioned in a text that dates back to the time when they were alive is an amazing discovery.
The incredible and adventurous story of how a French archeologist managed to put his hand on this stone comes close to a scene from the Hollywood movie made by Spielberg, “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
And to be able to link archeology to historical facts in the Bible, is like a dream come true for everybody interested in History and Bible.
In the sculpture and painting department we will be spoiled for choice.
The Dutch, French and Flemish painters back in the 15 and 16 and 1700-s loved using themes for the Old Testament.
The adventures of King David, the meeting of Isaac and Rebecca, King Solomon’s decisions, Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden are all depicted in different styles and different periods as well as their children.
When it comes to the New Testament, the life of Jesus was an inspiration for so many artists.
Jesus's birth, childhood, miracles, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension were sculpted, painted numerous times by artists from all over Europe.
We invite you to see different imaginations of these scenes and we will help you get some hints to decipher their hidden symbols.
